Answers to our most frequently asked questions.

We understand you might have questions before scheduling a consultation. We’ve provided answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below. If your questions isn’t answered here, please contact our office to discuss any questions you may have!

Does it hurt?

Initially, it may be a difficult task to identify what is causing these inhibiting symptoms. Everyone’s biochemistry is different and our bodies send us signals in different ways. Ultimately, they are all related to our hormonal biochemistry. We now know, through our experience with science that these conditions can be prevented or treated. In some cases, conditions can be completely reversed. This is achieved through our unique and dynamic scientific approach.

Do you use cutting-edge technology?

As men age, production of the hormone testosterone begins to decline and many men experience symptoms of low testosterone. Testosterone is the hormone that is responsible for maintaining mental focus, energy, metabolism, muscle mass, fat levels, and sex drive. By balancing a man’s hormones with bioidentical hormone therapy, men can restore vitality and reduce the symptoms of low testosterone (also known as andropause).

What are the risks?

Hormones affect a multitude of pathways in the body. Women may experience fluctuations in their hormone levels throughout the lifespan. Imbalances can occur due lifestyle and environmental factors, as well as expected changes, such as onset of menses, pregnancy, childbirth, perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause. Imbalances of hormones, including estrogen, progesterone and testosterone can lead to many uncomfortable experiences, like night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings, depression, and anxiety.

The most common decline seen in menopausal and post-menopausal women is estrogen. When estrogen levels become unbalanced, women may experience symptoms such as low libido and bone loss. The bone loss that women experience due to declining estrogen levels can lead to osteoporosis and increase the likelihood of bone fractures.

Adjustments to a woman’s hormone levels through bioidentical hormone therapy and lifestyle changes can reduce or eliminate these discomforts and improve overall health and well-being.

How can a functional medicine doctor help me?

As we age, some good genes stop working while other bad genes express themselves. When we repair hormonal and nutritional imbalances, adjust genetic expressions with integratives, and improve detox systems, we can maintain and/or restore good health. This is the foundation of integrative medicine.

Why didn’t my doctor find these problems?

Your doctor is likely caught in the traditional western medicine world of “normal” and volume based medicine. We practice functional medicine combining both western medicine principles with functional wholistic principles to OPTIMIZE you to better than OKAY. Our visits typically last at least 45 minutes when we are first getting started that we can be sure to address all of your concerns. We will then guide you through the process of beginning to heal.

But my doctor said everything was normal?

Your basic lab results that were run may have come back in the “Normal” realm however we recognize that what is “normal” for one person may not be for the next. We practice in a way that personalizes medicine to meet your individual needs and we OPTIMIZE your health.

What do you think about COVID vaccines?

Let us ask you this: How many people do you know that got a COVID vaccine? Of those, how many still got COVID? We say NO WAY! Stay away from them. Sadly we see and treat people daily who’s health tanked following one of these “Vaccines”. Ultimately it is your decision, however, we would NEVER suggest a COVID vaccine.

Is telehealth availble?

ABSOLUTELY! We generally like to see you for your first visit. Then telehealth is available to all in-state (Pennsylvania) patients. We do need to see you once a year regardless of where you reside. Florida patients may also be treated via telehealth. For all other states, please call for specifics as these rules are based on your state’s laws.

Can my partner / husband / wife be seen?

Yes, we treat men and women. In fact, we recommend that couples come together so that they can both embark on their journeys to wellness as a team. It is often much easier this way for both parties involved. We even see children of patients when necessary to get the whole family on board!

How soon will I feel better?

Everyone’s path to wellness is different and there is not a one size fits all answer here. It all depends on how much work we have to do, what body systems that involves, and how dedicated you are to restoring optimized health. Dietary changes are often recommended. New medication regimens can feel like a lot at the start. We always recommend getting pill boxes (morning, afternoon, evening, and bedtime) and organizing all new meds and or supplements that way to help you to stay on track. There may be some uncomfortable days in the beginning while your body adapts but this all passes in time. Detoxification for some is more of a process than others.

For ALL patients, we recommend an organic diet, getting plenty of water, eating your recommended grams of protein daily (optimal body weight = grams of protein you should be consuming daily), staying away from all processed food, and sticking to grass fed, organic dairy.

Will hormones cause cancer?

NO! Bioidentical hormones do NOT cause cancer. In fact, they are cancer preventative. They will also help to prevent chronic disease states that come with andropause and menopause.

What do I tell my PCP or specialist?

We always recommend that you be honest with your PCP and any doctor you see. They are there to offer guidance, and you get to decide whether of not you follow that. If they are not open to you trying a new path to wellness, you should probably either find a new PCP or resign yourself to the fact that you can agree to disagree.

Following along with our protocols may not be something that your PCP is comfortable with or well versed in and that is OKAY! Their job is NOT to do what we do. And our job is not to do what they do. This is probably a good time to remind you that if you felt good with what you had been doing, you probably would not need to be seeing us. There is more than one way to arrive at wellness. Your concerns need to be heard.

Do you offer primary care?

We do not. We are quite busy managing hormonal concerns and offering cosmetic procedures to make you look as awesome as you feel! We can recommend primary care doctors in our area. Otherwise, we generally recommend someone who is open minded with an appreciation for the need for functional medicine.
